The production of structured and repetitive sounds by striking objects is a behavior found not only in humans, but also in a variety of animal species, including chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes). In this study we examined individual and social factors that may influence the frequency with which individuals engage in drumming behavior when producing long distance pant hoot vocalizations, and analyzed the temporal structure of those drumming bouts. Male chimpanzees from Budongo Forest, Uganda, drummed significantly more frequently during travel than feeding or resting and older individuals were significantly more likely to produce drumming bouts than younger ones. In contrast, we found no evidence that the presence of estrus females, high ranking males and preferred social partners in the caller's vicinty had an effect on the frequency with which an individual accompanied their pant hoot vocalization with drumming. Through acoustic analyses, we demonstrated that drumming sequences produced with pant hoots may have contained information on individual identity and that qualitatively, there was individual variation in the complexity of the temporal patterns produced. We conclude that drumming patterns may act as individually distinctive long‐distance signals that, together with pant hoot vocalizations, function to coordinate the movement and spacing of dispersed individuals within a community, rather than as signals to group members in the immediate audience. HtrA2 belongs to the HtrA (high temperature requirement A) family of ATP-independent serine proteases. The primary function of HtrA2 includes maintaining the mitochondria homeostasis, cell death (by apoptosis, necrosis, or anoikis), and contribution to the cell signaling. Several recent reports have shown involvement of HtrA2 in development of cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. Here, we describe the profiling of HtrA2 protease substrate specificity via the combinatorial chemistry approach that led to the selection of novel intramolecularly quenched substrates. For all synthesized compounds, the highest HtrA2-mediated hydrolysis efficiency and selectivity among tested HtrA family members was observed for ABZ-Ile-Met-Thr-Abu-Tyr-Met-Phe-Tyr(3-NO2)-NH2, which displayed a specificity constant kcat/KM value of 14,535 M−1 s−1. 相似文献

The mitochondrial contact site and cristae organizing system (MICOS) is a recently discovered protein complex that is crucial for establishing and maintaining the proper inner membrane architecture and contacts with the outer membrane of mitochondria. The ways in which the MICOS complex is assembled and its integrity is regulated remain elusive. Here, we report a direct link between Cox17, a protein involved in the assembly of cytochrome c oxidase, and the MICOS complex. Cox17 interacts with Mic60, thereby modulating MICOS complex integrity. This interaction does not involve Sco1, a partner of Cox17 in transferring copper ions to cytochrome c oxidase. However, the Cox17-MICOS interaction is regulated by copper ions. We propose that Cox17 is a newly identified factor involved in maintaining the architecture of the MICOS complex. 相似文献

ConclusionsAs more mechanistic connections emerge between the membrane and the cytoskeleton, it is becoming clear that a new generation of tools is needed. In particular, being able to track the dynamics and localization of specific lipid species, as well as physical methods to measure membrane rigidity in living cells, is critical. Additionally, most studies have been performed in individual cells, but not in the context of developing tissues or varied extracellular environments. Thus, how mechanical strains on the membrane translate into cytoskeletal reorganization ultimately effecting cell physiology and development constitutes the next generation of questions in cytoskeletal dynamics. 相似文献

The subject of investigation was Chrysanthemum x grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitam., ‘Satinbleu’. Leaf explants and internodes were excised from the middle part of the donor sterile plant.
Two methods of explant inoculation were applied: explants were placed polarly and horizontally. Modified MS medium (Murashige
and Skoog 1962), supplemented with 11.4 μM indoleacetic acid and 2.7 μM 6-benzylaminopurine, were prepared to induce adventitious bud formation.
Four dates of explant inoculation on the medium were tested: January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15. Thus, regeneration
occurred in winter, spring, summer, and autumn. In the present study, a more intensive regeneration in ‘Satinbleu’ chrysanthemum
